EMOTIONAL GEOGRAPHIES

A$600.00

Emotional Geographies is one of my first experiments in wet cyanotype. Sometimes I visit my local Mullumbimby flower shop to find some inspiration. I was a florist in my early twenties and still find myself moved by their colours, forms, structures, scents, symbolic meanings and pure beauty.

That day I bought a large stem of blue delphiniums. I took them home and created this piece. A wet cyanotype is where you paint the chemical straight on, lay the fresh flowers down, sprinkle some salt, spray some vinegar and lay some bubbles and cling wrap over the image. Place a piece of glass goes over the top, take it outside and expose to the sun.

This piece was pushed further. I decided to add the perforations because I was investigating trauma and how trauma impacts our lives. As I have been using red thread to represent traumata running through linages, I attached red thread to the holes made by the perforations. I like how the threads transmit a sensation of movement. They dangle and get caught up with one another. Much like the entangled web of trauma itself amongst the beauty of life.
